On Monday 5th October a group of children will be attending a special session with local author and illustrator, Chris Mould. Then on Thursday 8th October Chris will be visiting the whole of KS2 at school!
Chris has written and illustrated lots of books including two popular series’ Something Wickedly Weird and Pip and the Lost Children.
At both sessions Chris will be talking about writing, drawing, his books especially his new book Pocket Pirates which is about some very small pirates (pocket sized in fact) that live in a junk shop. He might also even do some drawing!
If you are in Year 3 – 6 look out for a letter in your book bag about the event.
Copies of Pocket Pirates will be on sale at £4.50.
As part of this year’s Ilkley Literature Festival well known and loved author, Cathy Cassidy will be visiting Leeds Grammar School on Friday 2nd October and we are lucky enough to be able to take ten children along to meet her.
Miss Whiteley will be inviting five year 5’s and five year 6’s to accompany her to the event. Letters will be sent home together with a price list if anyone wishes to buy a book (although Cathy has said she will happily sign any books already owned).
Today author, Gill Lewis visited children in UKS2. She talked about her latest book Gorilla Dawn and the plight of Gorillas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Gill also talked about her other books, about being a vet before she was an author and her love of animals.
The children enjoyed the dramatisation of how mobile phones are a threat to Gorillas, particularly Ismail’s portrayal of a Gorilla (complete with gorilla suit). They were enthralled by Gill and the subject of animals and asked lots and lots of questions.
There is still time to buy a book if you missed out today.
For one week only the books will be available to buy:
Gorilla Dawn costs £8.00 each
Sky Hawk, White Dolphin, Moon Bear and Scarlet Ibis are all priced at £6.30 each (a discount of 10%).
Cash (exact money) or cheques (please make cheques payable to Orinoco Books) are excepted. Please see Miss Whiteley.
Author Gill Lewis will be visiting school on Wednesday 23rd September. Mrs Johnston and Miss Whiteley are very excited as this has taken a very long time to organise as Gill is a very busy lady writing lots of books.
Gill will be taking to everyone about writing, her books and in particular her latest book which is only just published a few days ago called Gorilla Dawn.
If you are in years 5 or 6 you will be given a letter soon with more information about this event together with a list of books and prices which you will be able to buy on the day if you like and get any books bought signed by Gill!
Gorilla Dawn will be priced at £8.00 and all other books will be priced at £6.30 each.
Today author and illustrator, Lynne Chapman braved the snow and visited KS1.
Lynne spent the morning with year 2 and then the afternoon with year 1. She told stories, sang songs accompanied by her maracas, ran a drawing workshop and did a little drawing herself.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day which ended with book selling and signing.
If you forgot you forgot you your money today or have decided that you would like a book, it is not too late. There are still a few copies of Bears on the Stairs (£5.40), Jungle Grumble (£6.30) and one copy of Last Ark (£7.20). I will have these books until the beginning of next week. If you would like to buy one please see Miss Whiteley.
