Kate Pankhurst’s Visit to ACE

On Wednesday, children in years 3, 4 and 5 were treated to an afternoon with author and illustrator, Kate Pankhurst in partnership with the Ilkley Literature Festival.

Kate spoke about her latest series of books Great Women focusing on Emmerline Pankhurst (yes, she is a distant relative!), Maria Sibylla Merian (beware bird eating spiders are mentioned) and Junko Tabei (mountaineer extraordinaire).

The children joined in in a draw along with Kate drawing their very own Junko Tabei’s conquering Everest.  The children had a great afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed Kate’s visit.

Ilkley Festival Fun

Despite the rainy weather, children from Year 6 had an amazing day in Ilkley.

Having travelled by bus and train, Year 6 arrived in Ilkley where they worked in small teams, and with an air of competitiveness practised their map reading skills and successfully navigated the Book Trail.

Then in the afternoon attended a special event with author, Robin Stevens. After which the children had the opportunity to meet Robin and ask her questions about her books and writing. Many bought books and couldn’t wait to start reading them!

Ilkley Literature Festival Trip

Today, Year 6 children visited Ilkley and attended a special session with children’s author, Emma Carroll. Emma won the Leeds Book Awards 2018 and has written several books. She talked to the children about being a writer, how she got the ideas for her stories and answered lots of questions. After the session  many of the children met Emma and had their books that they had bought signed.

After lunch (at Riverside Gardens) Year 6 tested their map reading skills and participated in the Literature Festival’s book trail. They walked around Ilkley looking for clues in shop window displays and hunted for Mr Men characters (this year’s theme). The object to find all the hidden Mr Men and to complete the trail.

Soggy but happy!

Ilkley Literature Trip

This week Year 6 embarked on visit to Ilkley. Having travelling by bus and train they arrived in Ilkley where they put their map reading skills to use and attempted to find all 24 Where’s Wallys hidden around the town.

After lunch at Riverside Gardens Year 6 attended an event at Kings Hall with author, MG Leonard. The children really enjoyed the session particularly learning amazing facts about some types of beetle before purchasing books and having them signed by the author and headed back to school.

Does anyone know what the MG bit of MG Leonard’s name stands for?
