Over the past couple of weeks during library sessions, children in KS2 have been talking about their favourite authors and books and if they would recommend them to someone in their class/school and why.
Each class came up with a long list of nominations and then voted for their favourite/best liked three books. The votes were counted and Miss Whiteley will produce a top 5 recommended reads sheet for each class. A folder will be in the library containing these for children to look at.
Tom Palmer will be visiting school on Tuesday 6th June. He will be running a writing workshop and also leading an assembly including a penalty shoot out!
Eighteen children from Year 5 will be spending the day with Tom working on a historical novel project. The group will be required to write a chapter for the book (with a little help from Tom) and submit the final version by 2.30pm that afternoon!
Following the writing workshop, there will be a book selling and signing session straight after school. A selection of books will be on sale priced at either £5.40 or £6.30.
For more information look out for the posters around school or ask Miss Whiteley.
Wanted a group of children from Year 5 and Year 6 to participate in the Leeds book Awards.
The awards take place every year and the children taking part read the six shortlisted books. The group meets every week to talk about the books and the children are asked to write a short review for each book on the Awards website. In April the children can cast their vote for their favourite shortlisted book. Then in May the group is invited to attend the Awards Ceremony at Pudsey Civic Hall where the winner is announced.
If you would like to find out more information about the awards or would like to take part please see Miss Whiteley.
On Monday 7th November author, Kiran Millwood Hargrave will be visiting Years 5 & 6 at school.
Kiran will be talking about her debut novel, The Girl of Ink and Stars and about being a writer. Following the event there will be the opportunity to buy a copy of the book (£6.30) and have it signed by Kiran.
The Leeds Book Awards takes place every January – May and for the past five years children from ACE have taken part.
Last year for the first time organisers of the awards, The School Library Service asked for some children to read books that are being considered for the awards. This year they have asked if we could read some more books as they would really like to hear children’s opinion’s of them before they decide which six books are going to be chosen (short listed) for the awards.
If you would like to help with this please see Miss Whiteley before the end of Friday 7th October.
