Leeds Book Awards

This afternoon the LBA (LKS2) group met for the first time in the library.

After an initial introduction to the Awards, Miss Whiteley set the children off on a hunt in search of owls (the logo of the awards).

Each time an owl was given to Miss Whiteley part of a cover of one of the shortlisted books was revealed by way of a jigsaw piece.

Once all the owls had been found only then would the three shortlisted books become known.

Next we read the blurb for each book and voted on which one we would read first.

The first shortlisted title is: The Shop of Impossible Ice-creams!

Miss Whiteley then gave each group member a sketchbook in which they could write notes about the books, draw pictures and write their book reviews.

They then set to with paper and pencils to design their front covers for their sketch book.

Next week we will be finishing off the sketchbook front covers, discussing the first 5 chapters of the book and reading some more.
