Poems for Remembrance Workshop

As part of our National Poetry Day celebrations, children in Years 3,4 and 5 attended the Poems for Remembrance Workshop with poet Tomos Roberts.

The children created their own word garden, generated questions and began to write their own poem with the remembrance theme. The poems will be completed at a later date and I’m sure the children can’t wait to share them.

Hercules Event

This afternoon, author Tom Vaughn visited school to talk about his latest book Hercules: The Diary of a (sort of) Hero. Much to the delight of children in Years 3-5 Tom became quiz master and tested them on their knowledge of Greek myths complete with volunteers from the audience dressing up. The event was followed by a Q & A and a book signing session.

Dermot O’Leary Event

This afternoon, radio broadcaster, TV personality and children’s author, Dermot O’Leary visited school. Children from KS2 and from several other Primary Schools were in attendance. Miss Cooke interviewed Dermot about his childhood and the books that he has written. Dermot spoke at length about his newly published book, Spy Fox; set in WWII where the story revolves around the unlikely characters of a fox and a chicken. The illustrator for Spy Fox led us through a ‘draw a-long’ which was great fun and the afternoon came to a close with a Q & A session and a small number of lucky children posing for photographs with Dermot.
