Penny Dolan’s Visit Year 1 & 2

        

Local author Penny visited Key Stage 1 this afternoon.

First year 2 enjoyed Penny reading one of her books to them called Big Bad Blob, they joined in a word game and then learnt about writing books. While Year 1 was treated to Red Riding Hood Rap and met a special visitor, a naughty sheep.

The children really enjoyed the afternoon and many of them bought one of Penny’s books and had it signed.

Library Taken Over!

Today the library was taken over by two new librarians, Phillippa and Cairan as part of Takeover Day.

The Librarians did a fantastic job reading stories to Reception, Nursery and Year 1 classes. Discussed favourite books with years 3/4 and 4 and scanned books in and out of the library. They also did a lot of tidying up too!

 

Leeds Book Awards 2014

LBA logoExciting times ahead. The school has registered again to take part in this year’s     Leeds Book Awards.

The awards run from January to April with the winning book announced at the awards ceremony which is held in Pudsey in May.

A small group of children from years 5 & 6 will be invited to participate in the awards and will read 6 shortlisted books, write a review for each, take part in fun activities and vote for their favourite book. They will also receive an invitation to attend the awards ceremony at which they will be able to meet the authors of the books.

This month sees Michael Morpurgo celebrate his 70th Birthday and every day during November, schools, libraries and book shops are being invited to celebrate 30 of Michael’s books, one each day.

Author & Illustrator to visit school!

Local author and illustrator, Chris Mould will be visiting KS2 children tomorrow afternoon (Friday 11th October).

Chris has written and illustrated numerous books for children and we are very excited about him coming to visit us.

Chapel Allerton based book shop, Radish Books will be supplying the books for tomorrow’s event and children will have the opportunity to urchase a book after the session and have it signed by Chris.

Radish are offering a 10% discount on the cover price of books with the Something Wickedly Weird series and Spindlewood Tale series books priced at £4.50 each while Fangs ‘n’ Fire, Pirates ‘n’ Pistols and Dust ‘n’ Bones will all be priced at £7.20.
