Leeds Book Award – Want to take Part?

Would you like to take part in this years Leeds Book Awards?

All you have to do is:

  • Read 6 books from January to April
  • Write 6 short reviews
  • Meet once a week to talk about the books/do a fun activity/read your book
  • Vote for your favourite book
  • Attend the Award Ceremony

This month sees Michael Morpurgo celebrate his 70th Birthday and every day during November, schools, libraries and book shops are being invited to celebrate 30 of Michael’s books, one each day.

Author & Illustrator to visit school!

Local author and illustrator, Chris Mould will be visiting KS2 children tomorrow afternoon (Friday 11th October).

Chris has written and illustrated numerous books for children and we are very excited about him coming to visit us.

Chapel Allerton based book shop, Radish Books will be supplying the books for tomorrow’s event and children will have the opportunity to urchase a book after the session and have it signed by Chris.

Radish are offering a 10% discount on the cover price of books with the Something Wickedly Weird series and Spindlewood Tale series books priced at £4.50 each while Fangs ‘n’ Fire, Pirates ‘n’ Pistols and Dust ‘n’ Bones will all be priced at £7.20.

Welcome back!

Welcome back to School!

This term there are lots of exciting things being planned……

Friday 27th September – Dress Up Dahlicious Day

We will be celebrating all things Roald Dahl and also will be dressing up as a character from one of Roald Dahl’s books to raise money for Roald Dahl’s Children’s Charity.

Thursday 3rd October – National Poetry Day

This year’s theme is water so we will be sharing some watery poems and having a go at writing our own.

Monday 7th – Friday 11th October – Children’s Book Week

We will be sharing our favourite books and Key Stage 2 will be preparing from a visit from an author & illustrator.

Friday 11th October – Visit from author & illustrator Chris Mould (KS2)

Chris will be visiting school and talking about his books. More information to follow.

 

 

LBA Award Ceremony

Today 10 children accompanied by Mrs Johnson and Miss Whiteley attended the Leeds Book Awards Award Ceremony at the Pudsey Civic Hall.

Over the past 4 months, the children had been reading the 6 shortlisted titles, writing reviews on the Leeds Book Awards website and discussing the books. Then finally they had the opportunity to vote for their favourite.

Almost 50 Primary schools and 450 children participated in the awards all of which were invited to the ceremony.

Poet Craig Bradley provided the entertainment and announced the winning book and author…..

After the ceremony finished the children had the opportunity to buy books and get them signed by the authors.

All in all a fantastic day!
